Lebron James NFTs are Flying After He Broke an NBA Scoring Record

NBA superstar LeBron James became the NBA’s all-time top scorer in midweek. Since then, his NFTs on NBA Top Shot have seen increased sales. According to Dapper Labs, the developer behind Top Shot, the sales began to surge on Sunday.

Data on the platform shows that these NFTs have generated $230,000 in trading volume over the past seven days. About 2,600 pieces have been sold. One of the NFTs changed hands for $13,450, making it Top Shot’s largest sale of the week.

Dapper Labs Plans Revealed

Lebron’s achievement has not just fueled secondary market sales alone, as Dapper Labs announced that it would launch 100,000 NFT packs, each to be sold for $9. In addition, some buyers will be airdropped with an NFT of the record-breaking occasion.

Only 98 pieces of Lebron-themed NFTs will be minted on Top Shot. Dapper Labs revealed that it would reserve 26 of those NFTs for the top-ranked collectors on the platform. The ranking would be based on the number of NFTs traded by a user.

Built on Flow blockchain, NBA Top Shot was a major driver of 2021’s NFT market boom. However, the NFT prices and sales have since fallen significantly. The platform has generated $1.06 billion in trading volume since its launch in 2020.

Top Shot sales have increased in the past seven days, with Lebron NFTs playing a big role. This week, the platform recorded roughly $1 million in trading volume, up from $735,290 posted last week, according to data from CryptoSlam.

Another NFT Platform Benefits From Lebron’s NFTs Buzz

Further, the hype around Lebron NFTs seems to have extended to Sorare NBA, an NFT fantasy basketball game. The platform has availed a single-edition Lebron trading card for an auction, and as of now, the top bid for the piece is 6 ETH or $8,100.

A few days ago, Sorare NBA processed its biggest NFT sale since it launched in October 2022. The NFT featured another NBA star Giannis Antetokounmpo, and it traded for $114 ETH or roughly $188,000 at the time of sale.

On the contrary, NBA Top Shot’s largest sale features LeBron’s NFT, which was sold for $389,000 through an off-chain auction.
