Bitcoin’s die-hard proponent, who also happens to be the Mayor of Miami namely Francis Suarez, has shown his intent that he wants the next paycheck of his salary to be paid entirely in Bitcoin. Suarez is now the one and only politician in America who has raised such a demand and if his salary is eventually paid in Bitcoin then he would become the first American politician to do that. Another step towards fulfilling his dream in turning the Miami city into a “crypto city”, claims Mayor Suarez.
A very interesting tweet message has been posted by the Mayor of Miami, USA namely Mayor Francis Suarez. In this interesting post, Mayor Suarez has been demanding the US Government to ensure that his next paycheck is issued in Bitcoins. Simply, he is requesting the Government to make sure that his monthly salary is paid not in USD but instead in Bitcoins.
The tweet message of Mayor Suarez soon after the tweet message of Anthony Pompliano, who is the partner at Morgan Creek Digital. Pompliano had earlier asked from his Twitter account as to who is willing to become America’s first politician to claim his salary in Bitcoins. Mayor Suarez’s post was therefore in response to the question raised by Pompliano.
However, the response of Suarez was not a joke. In fact he was quite serious about what he had wished in his post. He was also seen tweeting a message to Miami’s Innovation & Tech Department’s Director, Mike Sarasti. He instructed Sarasti to make sure that his next payment is in Bitcoins. In response, Sarasti responded with affirmative and said “it will be done indeed”. Before leaving his Twitter handle, Sarasti also took out time to appreciate Mayor Suarez and suggested that he is doing the right thing.
There seems to be a trend getting attraction in the US where known celebrities are demanding their dues to be paid in Bitcoins. These include celebrities particularly from sports and film & TV. For instance, a number of sportsmen such as Tom Brady, Sean Culkin, Russell Okun and Saquon Barkely are also raising similar demands.
However, amongst the politicians of the US, Mayor Suarez is the only politician who has demanded payment in Bitcoin. He claimed that he has opted to receive payment in Bitcoin because it keeps reminds him he has a big task to complete. Certainly, he was referring to his dream project where he wants to see Miami transforming into a global crypto city. He has been working on the project and is putting in all his efforts to convince US lawmakers.
Suarez demand of Bitcoin payment was also appreciated by Senator Cynthia Lummis. She said that in terms of having faith into Bitcoin, Mayor Suarez is leaving behind every politician in the US as well as in the world.
